Anu Kirk's Definitive Guide to the Evolver explains the ringmod
feature very well. Here it is at carbon111's evolver page:

Basically the answer to your question is that the ringmod amount is
merely a level control. If you think about it, this makes sense.
Ringmod is a multiplication of the frequencies of each oscillator, so
it's not like you can apply "more multiplication." (Unlike Frequency
Modulation, with which you can add more modulation of one oscillator
to another.) So if you want to hear just ringmodded sounds, you need
to have all the oscillators' levels at zero and the ringmod amount up.
