ringmod question

2006-04-16 by dyphase

hi, everybody!

evolver desktop version:

why does "ringmod 3->4" or "ringmod 4->3" affect the sound even if osc
3+4 is muted (level 0) and only the analog osc´s are in use?

Ringmod is a multiplikation between the digital oscillators probably before the
mixer section.

Anu Kirk's Definitive Guide to the Evolver explains the ringmod
feature very well. Here it is at carbon111's evolver page:
http://www.carbon111.com/evolver.html

Basically the answer to your question is that the ringmod amount is
merely a level control. If you think about it, this makes sense.
Ringmod is a multiplication of the frequencies of each oscillator, so
it's not like you can apply "more multiplication." (Unlike Frequency
Modulation, with which you can add more modulation of one oscillator
to another.) So if you want to hear just ringmodded sounds, you need
to have all the oscillators' levels at zero and the ringmod amount up.

Anyone know of any demos showing off the ring mod? Preferably just
the ring mod if possible. Any links would be much appreciated.
Cheers James
