I travel on business fairly often 3-4 days at a stretch and I hate watching TV in the hotel room, (FOX News sux), so to pass the time, I usually throw my EVO in the bag with an M-Audio UNO 1X1 MIDI interface and a pair of headphones and then use the trusty laptop as a sequencer, mostly w/Ableton Live. I also have a very small battery operated headphone amp. The fun part of the exercise is convincing the TSA crew at the airport that the EVO is just a synthesizer and is OK to carry on a plane I mostly use the hotel time to explore the EVO by itself, that onboard sequencer just takes time When I want to do a little more I throw in an M-audio O2 controller, they are very thin and light weight, but I usually rely on just the laptop...my keyboard skills just don't warrant the extra weight If I want drums well then I use Sonic Charge's Microtonic and/or ReBirth ReWired to Ableton and route the sound of the Evo into the laptop soundcard to be mixed in Live (yes the latency issue pops up here but Ableton can now adjust pretty good) Also once the Evo output is in the laptop there are a boatload of VSTs that can twist the sound - try TobyBear's Monster Bag, SupaTrigga, or KillerGate+ for example. That's how I do it lightweight and on the go
