Sorry if I wasn't clear. I certainly didn't mean to equate "Filter Cutoff Frequency" with "Amplitude". They're obviously not the same thing. I only meant to make the point that (for most synths that DO include a "VCA Level" setting) you CAN have the VCA Level turned up, and yet not hear a sound without hitting a key, because the Filter Cutoff is set to zero. Fair? :) I actually tend to program a lot of patches that way on my various synths - with the VCA Level turned up, and the Filter Cutoff at zero, leaving the Filter Cutoff Envelope solely responsible for letting any sound through.
