everyone knows the mpc60 and the mpc3000 is the shit. the feel, the timing, and the sound of those machines is unbeatable. but the later akai stuff......... not so much.
the roger linn mpc's use 80's technology. why not take the good points of those machines and use 2007 technology? i mean, hip hop artists LOVE the 12 bit sound. isn't there a way to create something with the feel, the timing, that punchy sound - but with firewire or usb to connect to the pc, a smaller chassis and footprint, knobby controllers that send midi cc data, etc.....
there's a lot that could be done. it wouldn't be reinventing the mpc as moose stated. it would be taking the best from the old and making something new.
