Newbie Sequencer Questions

2003-02-13 by ski_ex5tech <ex5tech@excite.com>

From what you've said, I'm not sure if you're having difficulty
making the Evolver function correctly, or difficulty composing.

If you're having difficulty programming the Evolver sequencer
correctly, I'd recommend reading the page in the manual
entitled "Sequencer Operation". Especially if you're finding, after
programming a sequence in which you INTENDED to sequence pitch, that
the pitch doesn't change, you're missing something VERY simple. You
basically just have to set one of the sequencer tracks "destination"
to modulate one or more of the oscillators' pitch. Then you actually
program the values in the sequencer. Read the manual carefully,
though, for the specific steps. Don't worry or get frustrated... it
IS something very simple you're missing.

I might also recommend programming the sequencer with the front panel
knobs, prior to trying to to it with an external MIDI keyboard. Keep
things as simple as possible, and when you have that working, THEN
graduate to the more complex stuff. You don't want to have to wonder
if you have a problem with a MIDI connection or something like that
as you're trying to solve another problem.

If you're having difficulty composing... well, get in line! ;)
Everyone has some degree of trouble from time to time. And of
course, some people are great at it, and some are not. Some find it
easy, and some find it hard. I'm not sure that anyone can help
someone else to be a better composer with just a few quick tips.

Back to the sequencer itself...

You've asked these questions before, as I recall. I don't remember
if you ever answered my previous reply, but did you ever get a chance
to read it? If so, did it help at all? Here's a link in case you
haven't:

(Depending on Yahoo or your email program settings, the link above
may be wrapped, and you may have top copy/paste it into the address
bar in your browser.)

Happy sequencing!
