On an Evolver there wouldn't be any audio signal going through the pots so there wouldn't be much chance, if any, of them causing scratchy audio.

Also aren't the encoders on a PEK free running, so they don't click per value anyway?

Now, these instruments could use higher resolution encoders (more pulsed per degree turned) and maybe better software programming to make encoder response customizable.. ....so everyone can be happy.....
