thanks for checking into it... i hadnt connected the mod matrix to seq 3 , and it did certainly add release time even though suprisingly  that seq was set to 'off'. However ,  it still did not make it less 'straight' and more funky.  im still baffled by the phantom grace notes that me and my band insists are there despite it not showing in the step sequencer. i will try at it again, but both  synths pattern is ---1note-2rest-3rest-4rest-5note-6rest-7rest-8rest
9note-10rest -11note -12rest-13 note -14note -15note- 16rest- 

yet i hear  a double note around # 9/10  and 16/1  that makes it sound funkier. i have tried adding a note of another pitch  on 10 and 16  which helps , but again its very straight, and doesnt swing like the original, and setting the pattern 16swing does NOT do it.
