Yea, I'm familiar with how it ought to work. I'm kind of used to
High Note priority (like the CS-15) but Low Note... Ugh! I hadn't
considered the Poly Chain setting - probably got changed during wild
knob tweaking. :)

I'm proud to say I'm the original owner. My parents got it for me
when I was in high school ('81) and I've had it ever since.
It is a nice unit, especially the external in. I've had lots of fun
running my guitar through it.

You can get some really nice, unique sounds from it.

In collage, I took an electronic music course at Hofstra taught by
Herbert Deutsch. He worked with Dr. Bob on the original Moog
Modular - one of which is a part of the lab there. I already
understood the whole subtractive synthesis thing mainly from playing
with my CS-15. I have to agree that as a teaching tool (as well an
an instrument) it's a great synth.
