Civility and 4 voice upgrades

2010-03-30 by Anu Kirk

I find it disappointing but inevitable that the level of discussion quickly drops to name-calling, ad hominem attacks, and the usual playground shoving and arm-crossing. Can we vote people off the island yet?

To those unhappy with DSI, you can always leave the list and sell your gear. That's a great way to prove whatever point you may have.

Having actually designed and shipped professional audio hardware and software products, I would note the following:
- Economies of scale have big implications for producing parts. I am speculating this may account for much of the discrepancy between pot edition keyboards and the cost of upgrades.
- Making changes to existing, shipped hardware products is also much harder than you think. Feel free to buy a Poly Rack, disassemble it, do the installation on the PEK yourself and tell us how easy it was.
- DSI already provides a "voice upgrade path" via the Poly chain, inputs, etc. Carrying one extra rack unit and a few extra cables isn't exactly a back-breaking amount of gear. If you're really looking for a giggable keyboard, I would recommend something other than the PEK anyhow.
- No gear is perfect.

To everyone else: don't feed the trolls, and don't let them push your emotional buttons.
