And to add to this.... have the delay time different between the 
left and right channels. Makes sequences sound more complex and 
interesting. 

Also, use a highpass filter on the delay effect so that the bass 
does not get too muddy. 

Use light amounts of reverb (so that you can't really hear it as 
reverb) to thicken up a sound or even an entire mix.
