User Forum Soundset - Last minute plea!

The end of April deadline for "volume 1" of the User Forum Soundset
is fast approaching. Please upload your contributions, or email to
me at (ski at ex5tech dot com) as soon as possible. Along with your
patches/sequences, please include a text file with your name, a name
and description of your patches/sequences, plus any comments,
performance notes, etc. you wish to be included. Please zip your
files prior to uploading/sending in order to ensure integrity.

Stefan (a.k.a "drtrippler", "Bluescreen", other) has recently sent me
a whopping 37 patches/sequences!

Paul and Boele... I know you guys are holding out! Come on! ;)

Synthlab, Spectralab, drK, Don G., and others... ???

Here's the link to the forum thread again for anyone that wants it:

(Note: If your email client or the Yahoo website has split the text
of the link above, you will need to copy/paste it into the address
bar of your browser.)

There are some simply outstanding sounds in this set already, I hope
we can get even more! Thanks guys!

Which reminds me, there needs to be a way in the evolver to determine
whether a patch was saved with a sequence or not, as some of the patches I
have are sequence based and a couple are not but you couldn't tell by just
looking at the Evolver.

Possible failure!

2003-04-27 by Dave Fulton

My evolver quit the other day. I turned on everything and did not notice
right away but the Clip light is on steady and so is one other LED (I
don't
have it in front of me right now.) I think it is the one below the main
button to the right of the hold to save label. (Shift?)

Nothing else. No sound, no other LED's,Patch # etc.

I had it MIDI looped from a Nord Micromodular Midi OUT. Is it possible
that the NM spit something out on boot that sent the evolver into
never-never land? Or did it simply puke?

I did try another supply. Same thing.

Any thoughts? I go back to the rehersal space in an hour and I will take
it home if it still is dead.

email dave_fulton@... if you have an idea and I will get the email on
my phone.

thanks

dave

Don, you're right, there's nothing on the Evolver itself to indicate
that any sequence data is stored within a given program. Good
patch/sequence organization is key. Without that, I usually just hit
the sequence "Start" button to see if there's a sequence inside a
given program.

For single program SysEx dumps, we've been using "seq." as a prefix
for programs that contain sequence data. For
example: "seq.Ski.KitchenSink.A128.syx"

Even knowing that a program does or doesn't have a sequence won't
tell the whole story, though. Some programs intended as "normal"
leads, basses, etc. can contain "leftover" sequence data from a
program from which they were cloned. Some programs with sequence
data are keyboard gated, and meant to be played as leads (for
instance, with the sequencer changing filter values). Some sequences
can be transposed with a MIDI keyboard, while some can not. Some
patches without sequences are "drones" with the filter and amp open,
and do not need to be played with by a MIDI keyboard.

The organization that Dave used in the Evolver presets really isn't
too bad. It does a decent job of separating programs into the basic
groups. I find it's a good idea to use something similar in
organizing my own collections of patches/sequences.

BTW, thanks again for sending the 13 programs for the User Forum
Soundset!

Can I assume that you've disconnected the Evolver from all other
gear, and powered it off/on a couple of times? I have had my Evolver
lock up every now and then, but it always comes back OK after a
restart. If your problem is more serious, I'd send an email to Dave
right away. He's very good about responding quickly to problems.

Best of luck!
