Tip: Shift "Hold"

Tip: Shift "Hold"

My only dissapointment with the user interface so far has been
finding out that you had to hold down the Shift button to access the
lower row of parameters - but then, either by accident or instinct, I
found out that if you tap the Shift button twice quickly it stays in
Shift mode. I originally thought it would simply act like an on/off
switch...tap it once to flip between the upper or lower rows, but no.
Anyway, I thought I would share the "tap twice" thing since I haven't
found that in the user manual yet. It may be mentioned in there
somewhere, but my Evolver time has been 95% tweaking and 5% manual-
reading, so I could easily have overlooked it.

yes, it is in there. but your reason for overlooking
it is a good one :)

I found it by looking specifically for something along
those lines, because the exact same thing was bugging
me at first... with all the great design choices Dave
made on the Evolver, I had a hard time believing he
would force us to hold the shift button down to access
the bottom parameter rows in the matrix ;)

ps: a kind soul over at the Gas Station has offered to
host Evolver demos... he has put my first one up, and
will continue to add demos that anyone sends him in
this directory:

http://www.stucki.com/krhen/downloads/evolverstuff/

so check back from time to time. this may (hopefully)
help ease the download constraints on this group's
files area.

I e-mailed to Dave as well, and while he mentioned
that he'll add it with the next tweak to the DSI site,
I'd imagine he's pretty busy these days ;)

My earlier wish, but it was too late was to not use shift button at
all. But instead have each of the row buttons just toggle into
flashing/shift upon every 2nd button press. E.g., Press row one:
solid, press row 4: solid, press row 4 again: flashing, press row 3:
solid, etc, etc.

Then the shift button could be used as a tap tempo button or
something else.

My future request is for some shift function for the sequencer, like
glides and what not. Dave does not like hidden functions, but the
sequencer stuff is pretty hidden as it is, i.e. it requires a manual
read.

I wonder if there is room for some arppegiators . . . ?

I agree with this whole-heartedly. in fact, I find
myslef already doing tis unconciously and actually
having to stop to remember to push the shift button.
oh well. maybe in future OS ;-) ... as it is, the
only other complaint I have so far is the resonance
being 7 spaces away from cut-off in the filter param
row... I'd prefer to have the two side-by-side... but
again, no biggie, and there are certainly far more
good things to say about the Evolver than these two
minor inconveniences :-)

I was hoping for something similar. What I was thinking is that when
shift is used for the sequencer, it would activate the gate, where
gate time would be from 0-100 (auxillary advantage is that a gate
parameter elmiminates the need for 'off' setting on first sequencer
track AND allows one to use rests on all sequencer tracks. Nice, no?)
and after 100 the display would read 6Ld...glide! For the sequencer
to transmit MIDI would be awesome, too.

Is it too early to start writing up a wish list for new features in
the next OS rev? ;)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
