Dumb question

Dumb question

I'm away from my evolver...

Please confirm that you cannot ring modulate an external signal with
an internal oscillator.

thx,
/R

as far as i know there aren't any modulation possibilities between
external signal and internal sound generators. waaah, that would be the
coolest... being able to fm a drumloop or something...

Well now it's a confirmed request in the database! :-)
[I have a bad feeling it is not feasible]

Not quite, but check this - you can do AM on an external signal by
having osc 3 or 4 modulate the VCA. It's too bad the external input
isn't a direct destination, because then you could AM that without
AM'ing everything. But it does make for some freaky textures on any
external signal.

Re: [Evolver] Dumb question

I uploaded a file into the files folder (sorry, no webspace of my own
at the moment) that's a drumloop processed in this fashion. I just
punched in a pretty bog-standard beat into Rebirth and ran it through
the evo. Due to technical reasons (read: my studio is ghetto and I
ran out of cables) the loop is mono, but it still sounds good. If
anybody wants to use it for anything, go for it. Consider it public
domain. The file is called drumloop3000.wav.

If anybody is curious of the specifics, what I did was I routed OSC3
to VCA, I routed the envelope follower to OSC3's pitch, and I used
the sequencers to modulate pitch and delay a bit for variation. I
think I added some slight feedback and filtering, too. What you are
hearing is the processed drum loop mixed with the original, the
oscillators of the evolver aren't actually audible, I just used OSC3
for modulation purposes.

It's not quite ring modulation, but it sounds the part.

Cute!
Thanks for the tip.

Cheers,

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
