y cable to use headphones... where?

y cable to use headphones... where?

2003-07-10 by r paul seymour

hello!

i'm an evolver owner. however, i havn't had the time i want to use it. i'm on an
extended trip, and i brought it with me. however, i'd like to use it with headphones,
but i'm having a hard time finding the cable i need.

i'd like a 2 mono male quarter inch on one side (to evolver), with a stereo quarter inch
female on the other. i'm sure someone else has one and is using it with headphones.
where did you find it? thanks!

(uk or usa is fine, too.)

Hi,

well what a coincidence!
I too am on holiday have my evolver with me.
I have been using a stereo rca (fitted with rca=>1/4"
bullet)=>phones minijack socket I got from my ex-work.

Dunno how it got there, but it looks like a
tandy(radio shack?) type product.
Stereo image sound fine. Not too loud at 100 vol and
keeps your lap warm when your sitting on the couch!
Just remember, no-one else can hear what you're doing,
so you're gonna look silly when you look at them with
a goofy smile while you add the nutty factor to your
sequenced patch(mayhem!! :o)

Good Luck!

Ummm ... the outputs from the Evolver are at line level. Don't think
thats not a good match for headphones. That's probably why the other
responder says that a 'Y' cable adapter sounds bad - though i've never
tried this. For something portable like you're looking for the best
approach would be a headphone amp.

The closest thing I've been able to find has been the above Y-cable except
with a 1/8" headphone jack instead of 1/4". I use it with a 1/8->1/4 adaptor
for my 1/4" headphones to plug into, though this is annoying because the
result seems physically kind of fragile and kludgey.

[Actually the _plugs_ on the Y-cable I found are also 1/8" plugs, but it came
with 1/8->1/4 adaptors for them, and that sort of adaptor is fairly small and
inconspicuous.]

I found it at the japanese consumer-gadgets chain `bic camera', and always
thought that surely a _real_ electronics supply store would have something
nicer...

Nah, it sounds fine, the E certainly has no problem driving phones from its
line outs, even my "hard to drive" 240Ms; D.S. even recommends doing it (when
asked `why no headphone jack').
