Re: Oscillator Problem? (patch)

OK, better idea than merely describing what I'm hearing - I've
uploaded a single patch SysEx file (it should load into A1, so make
sure you've backed up that patch). I just used a freeware SysEx
program...if you need one, try here:

http://www.patchmanmusic.com/SysexUtilities.html
I used "SyxLibEd"

Once loaded, just hit Start on the sequencer...I've got both analog
oscillators set exactly the same and panned them hard left and right
with the VCA Output Pan control. OSC 2 is in the right channel, and
it is the one with the strange noise. Again, you might have to turn
up the volume a bit to hear it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out here...I'm wondering if
my Evolver is defective or if this is a bug.

Here is the link to those files again:

I have heard from Dave that this is a rare error that will be taken
care of.

Hmm, mine does it too, I assumed it was just the filter being
overdriven, and I told him so in another forum. If it's actually a
problem, it can't be all that rare. Ravi, do D/L that sysex patch and
make sure it's not something that's occuring on your machine, too.
Now I'm a bit worried.

Hi there...again...(I'm Juno60 over at the-gas-station)

The more I play around with this, the more confusing it gets...as
though it's not just a simple 'overload' problem.

NEXT EXPERIMENT:
If you've downloaded that SysEx patch of mine, try this: call up that
patch and go straight to the Resonance control. I think it's
currently set at 7. Now, on my unit, adjusting the Resonance up to
between 12 and 20 or so, the strange noise completely goes away.
Then, continuing to turn the Resonance up, once it reaches about 30
or 35, the noise shows up again but it's even more annoying.

RAVI - when you said this was a "rare problem" did you mean it only
happens in certain units? Or, is this common to all Evolvers?

I emailed Dave yesterday, but I know he's a busy man at this point.
Like you said, I'm sure he knows about this already and he's working
on a fix, but in the meantime I was just trying to find out if there
was something wrong good old Serial #22 :)

Hmm...better do as Ravi says, I've heard he's quite dangerous (legend
has it he'll rough up a feller and beguile a lady without batting an
eye). Email Dave, send him the patch and let us know what he says.

I did email Dave, and I said so in my post :)

My main reason for posing these questions in a public forum was to
find out if other people experienced the same behaviour from their
Evolvers using the patch I posted...

I have just now received an email from Dave, and at the same time I
see that Ravi has already posted the answer in this forum. This is
apparently a known problem with the filter chip and has already been
fixed - on later models it should be of no concern at all. Earlier
serial #'s SHOULD be problem free too, but as Ravi said, there could
be the rare instance of one bad chip showing up. Apparently my unit
is one of those.
