Hi Amanda

well the wx5 can be set to function in three different keys. The easiest is
a to set it for "C" = under the rubber cover both "trns" switches to the
left then C on the wx5 is C on the keyboard... making it very easy to play
in C major or D major. You can't go wrong, the fingering is essentially the
same as recorder or penny whistle - though octave keys take some getting
used to and you really need to follow the instructions on setting up the
wind and lip settings... tricky to get them right

your studio is mad BTW! - I saw your link to it on the Andromeda list. I'm
sure I would go crazy in such a place - don't you find it difficult to begin
something with just so many choices? Do you really use everything or do you
end up working with a narrower number of those tools?

For me I just played soprano saxophone for 10 years - never even touched a
synth, but since I got the wx5 I'm swimmng in this world of technological
choice! enjoying it though ...

Richard

Re: [Evolver] Re: wind synth

that's interesting - it sounds an old fashioned approach, actually being
able to play the stuff! I mean that as a complement... my own approach is
old fashioned too and very much based on playing, but also very much on
particular sounds and textures and combinations, even accidents - I would
very rarely change a part to a different patch or synth once I 've put it
down, though I might edit the audio a lot.

But one thing that bores me, having a few synths, is keeping track of my
patches and banks, knowing where they are, keeping them backed etc.. looking
at the picture of all your beautiful machines... phew... almost a fulltime
job just keeping track of it all

if you're getting into the wind synth thing I would really recommend
checking the wx5 with the Andromeda - its capable of really beautiful lines
and textures I haven't heard from any other wind synth. You probably don't
need another to buy anything else but your yamaha VL70m with the Patchman
turbo chip added is also very much worth checking out - much better than
the standard patches

have a good tootle

Richard
