Are there _any_ synths out there that are otherwise?
Seems an odd question...

yes, there are.

I can think of the Alesis ION, Yamaha VL1 and Kurz
K2600 for starters.

Any chance for evolver 2?

2004-03-16 by Quest Pond

I'm just wondering is there any chance for an evolver mk2 ? Maybe something
with moog filters and FM on and ring mod the analog oscilators and maybe
analog vocoder, and scrap the digital part in favour of a multipart analog
drum expander.

Analog delay and distortion also maybe?

Just random Ideas.

You know it's funny because for awhile I had a *problem* with the digital half of the
Evolver. Now that I actually have one, I like it a lot the way it is. On the other hand, it might
be interesting to see other variations, including an Evolver with all the knobs and a
keyboard. But the digital side sounds excellent IMO.

I think we know where Dave stands on this when he says he doesn't care to recreate old
Sequential gear. He's been there already. If Dr. Moog wants to revise and improve his own
old designs more power to him and I really dig the Voyager. I just can't imagine Dave
Smith doing it, not that there's anything wrong with Moog Music. I'm happy he has his
company name back.

What a minute...
What you're asking for IS a Voyager! :-p

presonally, I'd prefer to see a poly-Evolver/Evolver hybrid. i.e. a poly
Evolver with a built-in Evolver interface in a table-top version. or the
same thing with tons of knobs (ala Nord lead). :-)

And a headphone jack!

While I had the PolyEvolver for doing patching last week, I worshipped
having a headphone jack. I'm sure I'd love it even more on the
tabletop, then it could come to the couch / bed / cafe with me like my
machinedrum does. ;-]

yes, that would be quite nice! the Evolver is more of a portable unit than
the MD, too (lighter, at least). but that's crazy that you take the MD
to a coffee shop! I never even thought of that; I'm sure you get all kinds
of crazy looks!

umm....that should be "personally". oops! :-)

I probably do! Never noticed. I bet it looks ludicrous, sitting there
with this weird silver box and a giant ceramic dish of high powered
espresso, bobbing constantly. Maybe I need to not be doing that
anymore. ;-]

Changing the environment is huge for me when it comes to being able to
do the same thing for huge amounts of time. Some sort of ADD thing I'm
sure... always rearranging my home or whatever.

Back to topic: I'd like to see a few more modulation slots. I'm
probably showing my Reaktor/Nord/Fenix roots a bit too much here, but
I'd love to see another pair of modulation assignments on top of the
four freely assignable ones that exist. I can't count how many times
I've desired one more mod routing.

As for interface, it'd be slick to get one more row on the tabletop
Evolver's UI - where the shifted parameters let you assign a knob to
any other parameter in the synth, and the unshifted just controlled
that parameter. Sort of force an 8 knob interface onto the thing,
customized per patch.

The internals are rock solid though, I love the thing as it is. Even
without a headphone jack. ;-]

RE: [Evolver] Re: Any chance for evolver 2?

2004-03-17 by Quest Pond

No i'm not asking for a voyager although i wouldn't say not to one but im certainly not paying 7 grand Australian for anything less then a car.
I'm not thinking of replacing the evolver or changing v1 i'm quite happy with it (although i would love to be able to slide notes on the sequencer per note). What I'm suggesting is a new machine to compliment it, using the same or similar box. Actually come to think of it im thinking a nice 'drum evolver' analog drum machine would be rather a special piece, sort of like waldorf attack but in a desktop unit and with real analog.
The reason i was mentioning moog filer is so that the new machine would have a different tone, one more suitable for bass as a compliment to the evolver.
Well as for the digital side i'm probably not going to use this too much but its nice to have it there. The poly is not really my thing as its a bit hard to ;control and as soon as anything gets put in a rack that's were is stays and I never end up using it. Im sure the poly will absolutely sound amazing that is for sure.
