Setting up Edirol PCR-30 for use with evolver?

Setting up Edirol PCR-30 for use with evolver?

2004-05-09 by deranka

Hello, Everyone,

I'm just now trying to setup the Edirol PCR-30 for use with the Evolver, so I can map
its knobs and sliders to some of the Evolvers parameters. I am having a problem
however, finding the section in the manual which explains which control change
values correspond to evolver parameters. I looked at the section - MIDI
Implementations and it seemed to me that there was no mention of cc's. Perhaps it is
not possible to use cc values only sysex (of which I am not familiar at all)?

Any help would be kindly appreciated,

Stephan

There are CC's , but there are only a few. Check under Received Controller
Messages on page 44.

You have pretty much Breath, Foot, and Mod Wheel.

Thats what i want to know also. Please can anyone double-confirm that
the evolver has no CC support beside the standarts like mod wheel, foot
etc.

It seems very unusal to a new synth like evo, that it doesn´t support
CC editing

And how can someone setup a controler (like the edirol) to tweak evo
parameters

sysex? = no idea!

No, there are really no more CC's. I found this weird as well. I wrote to
Dave and he said there MAY be additional assignable CC's as mod sources in a
future OS update.

Cunbase VST uses something called Mixer Maps that you can program sysex to
midi and vice-versa. I actually used it for my Juno-106 which transmits
sysex. I wonder if there is a 3rd party app out there...

I think we may see improvements here as to me and others Dave Smith knows
there is significant interest in further CCs and has indicated that it may
appear in a future update. I've even specifically requested CCs I would like
to see, namely 16,17,18, 80 and 81 which would specifically open the evolver
up to yamaha windcontrollers . If you have a particularlar need mailing him
and telling him would be a good idea.

I wonder if midi-ox can convert CC's to sysex and vice versa. I
haven't had the need to try (I don't have an evolver), but it's been
useful in doing a lot of other remapping tasks. If not, one could
always program something in keykit...

I have the PCR-50 as well, which claims to support SYSEX messages. I
have no understanding of how SYSEX works, but took a look at the
PCR's editor & Evo's SYSEX commands, in an attempt to create a
control map for the Evolver. Anyway, it really looked like chinese
to me, and I couldn't see how it could work.

Anyway, was I incorrect in my assumption that the PCR could control
the Evo parameters via SYSEX? Sorry if this question is basic for
some!

We May have a Solution! Sysex to CC converter

2004-05-11 by Robert Krueger

I haven't used the program yet, but this seems to be able to do exactly what
we are asking. I just got my PCR-80 delivered today in fact. My goal
tonight is to get this sucker programmed and the Evolver bending to it's
will.
