Getting shot

Getting shot

2004-05-30 by Riccardo Coen

Ok,

I'm exposing myself by reopening a wound. And feel free to kick me out
of the list.

GET THE uWAVE XT!!!!

My reasoning is... (1) I love it, (2) Waldorf went busted so it's
already vintage, (3) by the way the market is going you can always get
the evolver next year it will still be a classic.

Ok now shoot me...

Cheers,

/R

Discussion of the two synths shouldn't provoke any kind of dispute. They're
so different.

I had to sell my XT during a period of unemployment awhile back. I'm
seriously thinking about getting another soon - there always seems to be one
or two on Ebay. Another synth that's a really good deal now is the plain old
Microwave II, which, as I recall has been selling for a little more than
half of the XT price. It doesn't have all the knobs, but much of the cool
stuff on the XT is menu driven anyway. I always found the Waldorf editing
system quite logical and speedy, so I may actually save $ and try to get a
MWII. Now, on the other hand, I always hated the Virus interface, and wound
up selling my Virus C because I just couldn't stand editing the damn thing.

I have a uWave2...it has a one of a kind sound that is special to me
***the same guy (SoundTower) who programmed the Evolver PC Editor has
a very nice PC editor for the uWave2 ($35?) with randomization, multi
programming, arpeggiator programming, etc...Since I've found the
uWave2 editor, I know I'll keep it. Of course keep the Evolver too!

Damn, all I ever make with the Evolver is feedback drone shit (I love
it)...I almost cuss even more when I think of a PolyEvolver and 4
voices of the beautiful tuned feedback...Anyone else have this
drone/feedback hangup?

Chris

hi
" all i use mine for so far is vocoder carriers "
sorry, what do you mean when you say that? do you use it as an effect fort he voice or you are
making sequences made to be trigged by the voice?
Maybe my question seems a bit weird but I don't speak english at all :-))
and about the Evo I think It should be called REvolver cause this instument is deadly.

oh i meant like..
a vocoder has 2 things going into it, a "carrier" and a "modulator"
so i really haven't gotten much into my evolver yet, the only thing i
have really used it for is to feed my vocoder when i talk into it (evo
provides the "carrier signal" and my voice modulates that signal)
i know it's capable of much more but i cannot deal with it yet. its
personality is a bit like a 10-foot lizard with metal bones. perhaps
soon i will put some effort into learning to get along with it...

OK I see what you mean, thanksfor your answer may i ask you what vocoder you use? I got the Paia's
I think you should have a try and go deeper into the evolver's functions in my opinion its a good table synth, I compare it to the sidstation. even if they are very different synths. you find some odd features like making "songs" with a sequence= osc1-bass , osc2-tune , osc3-beat , noise-hihat... and make arcade like (or 8bit like) music.
First you might be scared by all these features and its personal architecture but, believe me after a few weeks, you will control it and say " I want more molation sources/destinations" or" I want more LFO's" :-))

yeah i got paia vocoder too, that thing rocks, very underrated
just got to keep the levels right going into it ::}
yeah im sure eventually i will learn to love my evolver, but so far i
have only taken the time to learn it. that sequencer idea sounds like
very much fun indeed::}
