question about filters

I had two different LFOs slowly modulating each the Filter frequency and the Highpass frequency. When the HP frequency is set to at least 1 I get a horrible intermittent crackling. Is this not possible to do because of some kind of interference? Anybody have experience with this? thanks, steve
