Do you think they'll ever release something. Their site says "imminente release" since January. Kind of tired of waiting. Could we at least try the Demo damn it. If anyone has any info, please share... Simon

Hi Simon, Sorry for the wait! The main reason we haven't released yet is because of the sheer number of features that have gone into the software. Since the Evolver is by far and away the most complex product we are supporting, it has required an awful lot of testing to ensure that it works properly in all use-case scenarios. A demo would be a great thing for us to release, but until the actual software is ready to ship, I'm afraid a demo version is simply not possible. It's a quality control thing, you understand. Just to detail one of the reasons we didn't ship after NAMM (in January) was that we discovered that our real-time sequencer edit mode was bogging down for programs with higher BPMs... This is because the editor actually tracks along when you play the Evolver's sequencer, syncing up the GUI to Song Position Pointer messages (please link to the Sequencer Mode screen capture below for an idea of how cool this feature is, it's the third link). The only solution was to redesign the real-time keyboard control we were using to refresh faster, and this clobbered a whole month of development and testing time. I was not going to release the product with promises to fix it later - As a musician and software buyer I hate that kind of treatment, and I won't allow it to happen with our products. The good news is we're really close. I have posted some screen captures you can check out at: http://www.psicraft.com/Products/Evolver/VyzorEvolverPre_f01.jpg http://www.psicraft.com/Products/Evolver/VyzorEvolverPre_f02.jpg http://www.psicraft.com/Products/Evolver/VyzorEvolverPre_f03.jpg http://www.psicraft.com/Products/Evolver/VyzorEvolverPre_f04.jpg These cover all of the program editor modes. Vyzor Evolver also has Global and Waveform editing modes that are just as visual and intuitive. These editors will run both on Win XP and Mac OS X, and will also act as VST plug-ins besides their default stand-alone mode. This version will fully support the desktop Evolver, and could be used to program the program banks of a PolyEvolver, although we will be producing a separate Vyzor PolyEvolver edition to handle this instrument and the PolyKeys in the near future (June, 2005). Retail price will be $89 for Vyzor Evolver, and the projected price for Vyzor PolyEvolver will be $129. (it will cost $30 to upgrade to Vyzor PolyEvolver from Vyzor Evolver, by the way). Hopefully this gives you some of the information you're after. I promise when we release there will be no shortage of graphics and product details on our website. Great ! Thank you for the update Tony. I'm with you about releasing early and promises of OS updates and fixes. I prefer to wait and have a "working" finished tool for Evo. If it's as good as it looks, i can wait a few more weeks ; ) Thanks again, Simon

a serious lookin piece of work. This will really open up that little blue box for me, especially the sequencer, which I have never really got to grips with in the hardware - I wanna see everything that is happening in one place and that seems to be your philosphy... I'll buy it because it will literally double the value of the hardware for me. I can program with a laptop and gig without it - perfect Richard ----- Original Message -----

Thanks for the update Tony.... the program looks perfect, and I'm glad you're working out all of the bugs before you sell it. I was wondering in the poly-evolver version of the software is able to control the mono evolver? I'm hoping to get a poly soon to add to my mono, and I was hoping I would only have to use 1 version of the software to control both synths. Thanks again, -FR

Hi Christian, All the Vyzor products will be compatible with Win2k as well. As for Win 98SE, well... We aren't going to ADVERTISE it as being compliant simply to avoid some of the tech-support horror-show users out there with ancient MIDI interfaces, failing hardware, and other issues but... between you, me and the forum, the Vyzor editors will run just fine on Win 98SE. We just aren't rigorously testing on this platform, since the heavy graphical content of the editors require a P4 or Athlon class processor machine - Most notably when your Evolver is punching along at 170 BPM, forcing editor screen refreshes at this rate in real-time. Most users with machines fast enough to handle this are also running Win 2k or XP. That said, if you have an slower machine, the editors will still work - You'll just need to turn off the real-time sequencer mode. I'll build in in a mechanism to handle this situation. Thanks for the input! Cheers, Tony --- In DSI_Evolver@yahoogroups.com, "Christian Andersson" <synth_christian@h...> wrote:

Hi FR, No worries there. Vyzor PolyEvolver will have all the capabilities of Vyzor Evolver in addition to extra combi and polychain control capabilities. As you may already know, Dave Smith is planning a 'Unified OS Upgrade' for all of his Evolver products, from the desktop mono Evolver to the Poly Rack and the PolyKeys. When this happens, we'll have a better idea of how to address the differences in these products. For now, I am planning a mode switch in Vyzor PolyEvolver that will jump it between editing a Poly and editing the Mono desktop version. Tony, Will this thing work with the PolyEvolver? If not, is there one on the way?
