Digital Waveform Types

Digital Waveform Types

2003-01-03 by z_flash_ram <z_flash_ram@yahoo.com>

Hello,
I've been curious as to the types/names of the waveforms that the
digital oscs use in the Evolver. I found a Prophet-VS manual and
transcribed its waveform list over to the corresponding Evolver wave
#'s. These are the only ones listed in the VS manual (the rest of
the names are apparently veiled in mystery.)

# NAME/DESCRIPTION

1	Sine
2	Sawtooth
3	Square
14	Pulse var1
15	Pulse var2
25	3rd and 5th harmonics *fundamental absent
27	Heavy 7th harmonics
29	BASSBELL 14th and 28th harmonics
44	VOCAL1 *Detune oscillators using either waveform to bring out
the vocal quality
45	VOCAL2 *Detune oscillators using either waveform to bring out
the vocal quality
82	Bell Partials1
84	Sawtooth 3rd and 5th
85	Sine 5ths *2 sines an octave and a 5th apart
86	Sine 2 Octave *2 sines, 2 octaves apart
87	Sine 4 Octave *2 sines, 4 Ocataves apart
88	Sawtooth 5ths *2 saws, an octave and a 5th apart
89	Sawtooth 2-Octaves *2 saws, 2 octaves apart
90	Square 5ths *2 squares, a 5th apart
91	Square Octave+5th *2 squares, an octave and a 5th apart
92	Square 2-Octaves *2 squares, 2 octaves apart
94	Bell Partials2
95 Blank Wave

Wow. Nice job, Chris. I was wondering about the same thing when I
was programming presets on an Evolver beta unit. It really would
have been nice to have had a list of all the waveforms along with a
description of each! Hope you don't mind, but I posted a copy of
your note in the Evolver forum at EX5Tech - link:
http://www.ex5tech.com/ex5ubb_cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=23

Thanks!

Cool list!

This webpage;

http://www.vector.synth.net/tech01.shtml

Contains the names of all of the VS's waveforms in case anyone wants that
too.

You should send that to dave and request he put it in future versions

Thanks! But I still say it should be in the manual. :) I mean, only
because not everybody who owns an evo belongs to this group or ski's
message board, and besides, it's just plain good reference material.

Yes it would be a great addition to the manual so why not add it yourself!

Here's what I have started doing with a couple of synths that seem to demand
constant manual reference (I just can't seem to memorize the modulation
source/destination mnemonics for the Evolver :-):

1. Take advantage of the generosity of many synth manufacturers to provide
PDF versions of their manual, download and print it out on standard-size
paper.

2. Punch a single hole in the upper left corner. Use on of the single
binder rings you can buy at any office supply store to bind the pages
together.

This works well, better than the actual manual on a number of fronts. First
it will easily lay open at the page of interest. Second it is very easy to
add new pages, such as the for mentioned waveform table. Third it preserves
the newness of the actual manual which can be a plus if you ever need to
sell or your a collector.

Anyway for the cost of some paper and ink/toner you can have a live,
"breathing" manual where you are free to add whatever.

Re: [Evolver] Digital Waveform Types

Speaking of manuals. The manual on the Evolver site is actually vers. 1.01 whichis slightly modified to add the parameter values to each of the references in the main section, rather than only at the end. Anyone who got a second batch of Evolvers got this manual. Anyone who had from the first batch got vers.1.00. So if anyone from that crew is going to take drk's advice, get the later version as it is more useful than the earlier.

As always, all the released manuals are available for historical study in the files section of this yahoogroup.

Well, send this info to Dave, asking him to include it in the next
revision of the Evolver manual...do something about it instead of
just complaining here, it's not hard, really.

Already one step ahead of you. I did it when it looked like nobody
else would. I just thought maybe the person who did the editing might
want to take credit for it personally, sorry if it came across like
whining.
