Re: [Evolver] DSI swag - cool or not?

White tshirts are imo not so cool for me, but some I am sure luv em. They can't do other colors because I believe they basically use a cheap iron-on process much like the iron-on paper you can get for your laser printer. Beware the coffee cups as the imprint will fade if you wash them too much. Better to put them on your desk and hold pens or change in.
DS might actually move a few nicer black t's or properly done baseball caps at similar prices. I think you would be surprised how reasonable a lot of 200 or so can be from a local printer, probably around less than half the price that cafe press charges, but then you have to move them . . but if it were the real deal I might buy some tchotchke or something-- how about a dsi dust cover for the keyboard, for example . . .
I believe I definately do not speak for any majority though as I personally avoid wearing any clothes that show a brand, i.e a calvin klein t-shirt, etc with a huge name emblazoned. I probably wouldn't change my habits for even my hero DS.
But no reason to not have it there as as it's no skin off of anyone's nose to have cafe press print up a hat or so.
On the other hand, if I ran a business, I would rather do it nicer than cafe press does. And I also wonder if Cafe press doesn't smell a little cheezy since it is so accessible and automated.
So those are my four or five contradictory views!

Hi, guys -

Someone from another forum turned me on to a web site called CafePress.com that lets
you make up your own swag, so I threw together a few DSI things - shirts, mugs,
hats...you get the idea...

Actually, I did it for myself more than anything else - I wanted the baseball shirt and the
sleeveless tee... ;^)

So, I'd love to get some feedback on this - is it cool? Not so cool? Should I ask Dave to
post a link to it on the DSI web site? Anything I can do to improve it? Or should I just
delete the site?

It's at http://www.cafepress.com/davesmith

Any feedback (positive or negative) is appreciated...

Thanks!

It would probably be cool if you didn't try and profit off the shirts. Last time I checked cafe press the t-shirt was like 15 bucks without the markup.

I agree, it looks slightly "cheap"...
If you are thinking about making "merchandise", I think it's better to hire
a designer to make something a bit more "artistic" than just simple "logos"
och instrument pics. (I imagine that there might be people here that would
be willing to give a hand with that for "free"...?)

I'm very wary of this sort of thing though -- I think if the core
idea/image is good, a mediocre designer adding "more design" often just
mucks things up and makes it tacky. Simplicity is a lot easier to get
right.

I'd pick a striking graphic associated with the Evolver (my fave: the
wacky-font "evolver"), and use _just that_.

:) That's just the type of thing I meant that a "designer" would come up
with (I'd love a well-cut t-shirt with that Evolver-print!).
Or a "better looking" photo of the instruments (like you also suggested)...

I don't think that it has to be more "complicated" just because a designer
is involved.

Hmmm, are there any higher-quality alternatives to cafepress that are
similarly accessible?

[Most custom t-shirts/mugs I've bought have been done on a "take orders
until there are enough to justify a print-run" basis, not the on-demand
cafepress model.]

I'd buy a T-shirt if it had the evolver logo on it. Maybe a black
shirt with the purple logo on it would look nice, or even a white
shirt. IMO the DSI logo is a bit dodgy, and a picture of a synth on a
shirt never really did it for me. It's a bit too geeky, I probably
won't buy any of these, but I'd definitely buy a shirt that had the
Evolver logo on it cause it looks kinda cool :)

well I guess that means he does have DS permission then.
in that case, at least my comments on what I like in a t-shirt still

See, that's exactly the problem. Many of the suggestions made here are contingent upon
doing business with someone who requires that we order big runs of the stuff, and we
need to have the "on-demand" model.

I like the signal path on a t-shirt idea. That would look cool. Don't put anything else on it but that.

Actually, I'm just playing with the idea right now; however, the way I set the account up,
the profits would go to Dave, not to me.

Interesting...cool idea fer sure...

The other one I like brother Stefan came up with first, which was just the Evolver logo. I
think I'd also prefer the ubiquitous black shirt (or maybe a blue one) to the white shirts,
although I totally dig the white baseball jersey with the black sleeves with the DSI logo on
it - it looks great.

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. Man, I love the internet... ;^)

I never wear swag but the signal path is a great idea and I'd almost
certainly get a shirt printed with it. Minimalist and geeky! However,
the CafePress stuff just looks cheap and you wouldn't be doing us (the
wearers) or Dave any favors that way. Oh, and see if you can't find
someone who will print on a deep blue (not quite navy) shirt - to match
the synth!

this is a silly topic but I have to say the signal path is a nice idea but
the shirt HAS to be DSI blue - anything else would be sheer madness and not
tolerable by the international evolver owning community :)

That seems to be a pretty common sentiment, and I think it's a good one as well.

Okay. lemme look into Evolver Blue T shirts with the Evolver logo and the signal flow path.

Thank you all for your input!
