I don't think that there is a hidden function that does this.
But you can setup a patch with silent internal sound engine and one 
sequencer row routed to "midi note number" ?

Hmm, good idea, but not quite what I was looking for. ;)

I wonder if DSI could implement this 'note on' feature.

i believe that in sequencer mode you can turn one of the knobs and have it trigger the amp envelope. i used to have a micro also, and lament the fact that the

Nope, just want to check the sound of a patch that is intended for
keyboard use without having to hook up a keyboard.  It's easier to tweak
on the couch this way ;)
