external sync?

external sync?

2005-11-02 by popsicko1

Anybody having sync issues? My Evolver seems to drift when sync'd to Live 5. Plus any "clock
divide" sequences I make seem to be ignored and playedat either 8th's or 16th, depending on
what the main clock divide is set to. For instance I programmed a "gallop" sequence (8th,
16th, 16th repeat) and it plays back at straight 16ths. Are these sequences overidden by
incoming clock signals?
Thanks

Apparently ableton live has sync problems with some midi interfaces.
Check out their user forum, and see what interfaces users are having
success with.

For me the tightest way was to make both Live and the
Evolver slaves to my Machinedrum. Perhaps it will
work well just having Live as slave to the Evolver as
well. Give it a try. De paso \ufffdDe donde eres Mariana?

Brooks,

In response to your question, it is not possible -- at least according to the book on sx that i have. i didn't have time to look in the manual, but i think the fact that i can't find the option *anywhere* in the sync settings in sx confirms this fact -- but i might be wrong. I also could not figure out how to get the monomachine to serve as the "stop and go"/transport control for sx, but that's probably my own stupidity -- or maybe another sx shortfall. it's so close to being the perfect sequencer, but the sync issue drives me nuts. the clock is *not* stable that comes out of it, so users should have the option of selecting how they want THEIR studio to operate.

does anyone know if sx 3 receives/syncs to external clock?

i apologize for hijacking this thread -- if people prefer not to receive OT threads, I guess me and Brooks can take it outside. So to speak!

i suppose the only solution would be to get a device that converts midi clock to midi time code. i wonder if those JL Cooper boxes would do that somehow...

Ron, Cubase SX only syncs to MTC - it will NOT sync to midi clock. I think this is the big issue as most hardware sequencers send midi clock only and not MTC.

wow.
now there's a very weird thing - in the MIDI clock caveats section - The system exclusive filter option filters out clock, which is a system COMMON message. That's utterly wrong.
.....how did cubase's programmers get so retarded?
oh well... I just run my mpc2000xl synced to cubase via MIDI clock, and it's all good. I'm glad I have no need for cubase to be the slave. (though I guess I could always slave it via timecode)

Re: external sync?

It's Live 5 causing the problems. I can't use it to sync anything. Live 4 worked fine. I don't
want to go backwards in order to move forward. What wrong with those Abeltons?
Just glad it's not my Evolver. Though I have not tested out anything while sewuencing the
Clock Divide. That was not working either. I'll go test that tonight.

Live 4 worked fine.

if you've just downloaded ableton 5, then you need to go into your
preferences and re-check which ports are enabled to send midi clock
sync...it used to be able to only send clock via one midi port, but
can now send on any or all, so this parameter will be reset after the
reinstall.

hopefully this should help...i'm syncing tons of stuff on multiple
midi ports and it works fine.

Re: external sync?

I've done what you suggested before my original post. Didn't work. I also have problems
syncing moreht an one computer, via "Network Midi" or standard midi interface. I wonder
are you on a Mac or PC. I wouldn't be suprised if these problems only happpened on the
mac. They've been slow with their support for Mac in my opinion.
Thanks for the input.
