Re: [Evolver] Note range problem

Re: [Evolver] Note range problem

2003-01-11 by Ravi Sharma

Have you checked the "Master Transpose" setting in the Main row?

It also can depend on the frequency that is set in the Oscillators
themselves. If for example all the oscs are set to C3 for example then
everything will be higher by 3 octaves. Remember C0 in the Evolver display
is equivalant to C3 (pitchwise) (i.e. if you give it midi note number 60 it
will play C3 on a piano scale and if the oscillator(s) on the Evolver are
set to C0 then you will hear a pitch of C3. If however the Oscillators are
set themselves to say C2 then a midi note number of 60 will have the evolver
emit a noted pitched at C5 on the piano scale, and when you give it a CO (in
Cubase) you will hear a C2 in actuality. The evolver will not respond to a
midi note lower than CO (note number 36 I think) so the way to make it sound
low is to make sure that the oscillators are not set too high. (and take
into consideration the master transpose maybe).

I hope this is correct. I am not in front of my Evolver. Anybody feel free
to throw in corrections please.

Ravi

Re: Note range problem

2003-01-11 by simonbirds <kpr77@iprimus.com.au>

Hi,

Yes I fiddled around with the master transpose and obviously if you
set this into the negatives it fixes the issue to some extent.

I forgot to mention that this problem (?) occurrs with the
oscillators tuned down as low as possible (C), therefore I guess they
are set to C1 in actuality. C1 is now the lowest note that can be
played. Any lower and C1 comes out. Master transpose is set to 0. Key
off/xpose is set to -36.

I've just checked some other patches - they seem to be ok. Its
clearly something I've got wrong in the patch. This is going to keep
me awake all night now.

Thanks for your help. Sorry to bother.

Simon

I am guessing that its a combination of different factors that I need
to mess with.

I'd also check the "Key Off/Xpose" patch parameter in row 7. Matter
of fact, I'd bet that this or the Master Transpose is where you'll
find the problem. I don't *think* that you can cause the problem you
describe (which I've experienced, too) with the Oscillator pitch
settings. Actually, your "problem" really IS normal behavior. When
you transpose things down too low on the Evolver, the lowest notes on
the keyboard will be BELOW the lowest MIDI note number. The result
is the notes with the same pitch that you heard.

Re: [Evolver] Note range problem solved

2003-01-11 by simonbirds <kpr77@iprimus.com.au>

I've found out what the problem is - simple.

I have been programming a patch that uses the sequencer. Then I have
been stopping the sequencer, disabling the internal clock and playing
the patch from the keyboard/from cubase.

Now, because I have sequencer row 1's destination set to oscillator
pitch - the pitch is transposed by whatever the first step is set to.
Dohh. Obvious really.

Sorry for wasting everyones time.

Simon
