osx editor problem or maybe lack of understanding

osx editor problem or maybe lack of understanding

2006-01-20 by psophometric

I am running the demo of the osx evolver editor. I have had some problems starting this
application I get a "NilObjectException" error, which is besides the point of this message.
Anyways when I finally get it to open, I get the virtual keyboard to send midi messages to
the evolver along with the global window, volumes changes etc. When I choose the
different programs in the main windows it changes the programs in the evolver, but when I
open the editor and move the sliders etc they do not not send midi to the evolver. The
editor manual states:

"The unregistered program lets you freely edit all of the Evolvers preset parameters and
usemost of Editor's functions with the following limitations: • Saving files (disabled)•
Loading files (disabled) with exception of SYSEX files in OS UPDATE utility. • Writing
presets to the Evolver (disabled)• Transmitting the User Bank (disabled)"

Am I missing something. I emailed soundflower but I have not heard back from them.
Any reply would be much appreciated.

Hi again psophometric

The editor demo for both MAC and PC is enabled to edit
change only few parameters the rest is disabled. The demo does not
expire with time.

This appears to be an unfortunate copy-edit snafu when it was stated
in the manual that:

> "The unregistered program lets you freely edit all of the Evolvers
> preset parameters and

This was true for the Voyager (MOOG) editor not DSI Evolver. We are
in the process of copy editing all our manuals; this will take time
and we appreciate such diligence in our clients reading of the
material. We wouldn't improve our service or products nearly as fast
if it wasn't for detail people like yourself. Thanks.

The "NilObjectException" error on start is normal if the editor
folder is dislocated somewhere on the hard drive. If all file
components are in the same folder this will definately disapear.

THANK YOU again for the heads up; I hope this helps.

I'll be posting again regarding a new update for the OSX. You might
be interested.

cheers
Derek

thanks for the heads up. I think I'll be investing in the program. As far as the
NilObjectException thing I do have the app and the bundle folder in the polyevolver folder
in the hard drive, but it seems to have stopped doing that.
