HELP, new PEK problem

HELP, new PEK problem

2006-01-25 by notaryandtax

Hi all,

I picked up a new PEK yesterday from guitar center in San Jose.
When I plugged it in the 1st time it got stuck in the boot sequence
and froze. I tried power cycling/unplug-replug the AC adapter etc no
luck. Finally I let it sit for a couple minutes and tried again.
This time it booted up no problem. I tried power cycling to see what
happened and the same result. Lock ups...unless I let it sit at least
1 minute between tries. After it did boot, I played with it for about
20 minutes and I started getting horrible clipping/distortion out of
voice #1. This morning it's about a 50/50 chance at a successful boot.

I feel sick to my stomach as the store has no more new in boxes and
only the floor demo left. This is the most expensive synth I've ever
bought and I've never had a problem like this before. Is this a
serious hardware/heat related thing I need to return to the store?
Has anyone had this problem straight out of the box? Any fix I can do?

Thanks,
  Dennis

Well DSI is in St. Helena, so if thats not too far, take it to the
source (or at least call them)

After reading other posts here that applauded DSI for being responsive
and customer oriented, I gave them a call and actually spoke with Dave
Smith. He's shipping me a new voice board today. I feel much better
now! I've always bought synths from the monster companies (Roland,
Yamaha, etc) with hit & miss tech support that I never bothered
calling. Calling DSI and having Dave help me directly was a very cool
experience. Getting to tell him that I can't wait to play with his
newest creation...priceless :)
