This is my first mail here on the list. I am getting a little mono evolver hopefully by end of this week. I looked at the user interface and I wonder if I can make it more "userfriendly" by using my PC1600. My question is: can I setup the 1600 this way that it functions as the 8 encoders with the buttons switching between the matrix rows? Cord

You can't. But I'm not sure why you'd want to, anyway. there is a set of PC1600 presets available (from memory, on the DSE site) to download that make the PC1600 control an evolver. The presets are organised into 'pages' that address different parts of the synth, like oscillators, filters, envelopes. LFO's, etc. Download that, get it in your PC1600, and have a play. julian cord_mueller wrote:

The reason behind this is to still have the flexibility of the matrix but with additional "fixed" controller/sysex for things you are using quite often (Filter, Q, Level, etc.). Also, having 16 buttons you can forget about the shift function. Anyway, I read the manual and it does not seem to work anyway. Aah fair enough. Buttons on the PC1600 *can* affect the value of data transmitted from the sliders, but they can't arbitrarily change any fader message to anything you want (which is what you would need to do to have pc1600 buttons selecting patches, I think) What you could do, is make up 8 different PC1600 presets, and each preset with 16 sliders controls one row of evolver panel. You select presets while playing by using the UP or DOWN button. (or get some kind of midi patch change box with 8 buttons on it, and hook that into the PC1600?) You will probably find that the bonus of eliminating shift will be eaten up by no longer being able to scan down the matrix from the knob you are twising to see what exactly you're editing at all times. But if you make your own set of PC1600 presets, remember to name every control in the PC1600 so you can hit the LEFT button before adjusting a slider, and it'll mute the PC1600's MIDI output, and just display the name of the slider on the screen. That's very useful for working out where you are! The existing PC1600 patches are setup similar to what you want already, I think. But more in logical evolver system blocks, rather than straight row blocks. Might be worth your while just to learn to use that. One thing - I think they are old presets, and only contain sysex for editing a V1.0 evolver. so more recent evolver SysEx messages and parameter ranges will be missing. Still, it'll work with the parameters and ranges it does support, and it's definately a start! julian cord_mueller wrote:

I programmed them for each section of the synth, i.e. Preset 00 has Osc 1&2 parameters, Preset 01 has Osc 3&4 parameters, etc...
