Hi everybody and which is better editor?

Hi everybody and which is better editor?

2006-09-23 by electrotimba

Got the desktop Evolver few days back, I am amazed, Dave Smith is
definitely the No.1 designer for me, found what i was missing, I
couldnt find in Clavia or Virus. They might be great for some people,
specially if they like scratchy sounds. I like it fine, creamy,
sophisticated. Then Dave destroyed another misconception in my head-
digital is not good enough for me- I love these digi oscilators as
much- it is about quality (reminding me how much of analog I heard
that sounds sh...)
Then the whole concept is so open, it is so easy experimenting and
tanks to the desktop form somehow easier to grasp certain principles.
These few days i learned more about synthesis then in last few years,
I am able to program any software synth much faster with better
understanding now.
So now I am ready for the editor, I use pc and would be nice to have
something that actually works like VST. But does it really ? Or is it
paying for Beta testing. Is it better to go for no fancy but 100%
working other one.

Well, SoundTower is free, so just download it and try it. If it fits
your needs, you're all set. But there's a misconception
about "paying for beta testing" with Vyzor. It's paying for full
version 1.0 and a free upgrade to 2.0 when that version is
eventually released with additional features, and you get to play
with the almost fully-developed beta version and provide feedback to
the developers in the meantime. SoundTower doesn't recognize my PEK,
so I use Vyzor.

SoundTower is not for free, is it? You can try a demo for free though.

SoundTower -IS NOT FREE- for the desktop evolvers. its $50. I believe its free for the polyevolver rack users, and maybe the keyboard versions - but absolutely 100% NOT FREE for the desktop evolvers.

I emailed davesmithinstruments about this, and dave@... replied.

I have noticed that the Vyzor folks were pretty responsive with a bug
that I was experiencing
several months ago when I purchased the editor, but lately they have
been very quiet.

I like the Vyzor, but I do occasionally get the dreaded spinning beach
ball in OS X

[Evolver] Re: Hi everybody and which is better editor?

2006-09-28 by psicraft_designs

Hi Everyone,

As much as it is Psicraft's policy to not post to the DSI_Evolver
group regarding our Vyzor Evolver software (We have our own group
for this purpose - vyzor_evolver_beta), here are some quick comments
to some of the points that have come up in this thread:

1. Psicraft has been busy getting the v0.98 build of Vyzor Evolver
ready for release, which adds the following major features to the
program:

   a) Full editor control-surface capabilities from your MED,
PER, PEK or MEK front panel knobs.

   b) User-definable editor control capabilities from all
      generic CC generating control surfaces.

   c) Optimized Sequencer mode graphics that allow Mac G4's
with 32 MB of video ram (and slower PCs) to keep up under
most real-time conditions - Video performance is greatly
improved on all machines, meaning smoother playback all around.

Despite the workload, we have quickly responded to any posts made to
the Vyzor Evolver pre-release group. Since there haven't been many
posts recently (a sign of the program's ship-worthiness) things have
been relatively quiet as you point out.

2. Electrotimba, your emails never made it to any of Psicraft's in-
boxes, which is why nobody responded. Please ensure that your
spelling is correct when you address correspondence to either
psicraft.com or vyzor.com and we'll be sure to get right back to you.

3. Although I am a member of this group and read most of what gets
posted here, I hope the membership can appreciate that I will not
respond to any posts that I consider trolling or simply unsupported
slagging of the talented engineers and musicians who make up our
team. I will also stay out of discussions on the relative merits of
our editor versus Sound Tower's - I believe both software products
speak for themselves and that this group's right to unbiased
discussions on such topics should be respected.

That said, I will speak up if it seems that Psicraft's commitment to
quality or customer service is in doubt. Rest assured, we are here
to do business and will not let our users down.

All the best,

Tony

Desktop; sorry, I just glanced at the note.
about half way down Dave goes into his three option: credit card over internet ( I know that's out), money order/ cheque to address at footer of the page or by credit card over phone. SoundTower sold this one to Dave and we just support it.
good luck

original editor now and will never even look at any product of your
company, yes you did seriously pissed me off and the lame explanations
challanging my spelling and general mental abilities is disgracefull.

We all need a helping hand at times! LOL.
I was curious about something though as I've been looking at the Vysor product a little. The ST ed has had the genetics function for years now. I thought it was an original creation of the ST programmers (copyright ?) and not an industry standard.
Anyone using the Vysor, that has used the ST ed, if the genetics functions are any different in the Vysor? Any better or worse. I like the feature alot. Especially on beer night.
