Flute characteristic is without doubt interesting, but imho it's more the
breath controller characteristic than the flute sound. Programming a basic
flute sound isn't difficult, but it's not quite easy to program and play
velocity, aftertouch, modwheel and bender in a way that it sounds as if
blown.
Keyboards are rather limited controllers, it's difficult to gain
expressiveness from keys.
Here is my modest attempt of an Evolver flute:

I personally find flute characteristic as one of most suitable for
solo voices in various kind of music. Though use sometimes the "real"
samples, it is even more interesting to layer or develop interesting
voices starting from "flute" sctratch.
Would like to know others experiences with it.
Interesting links from SOS, as starting point.

Wow, great- love the sounds, is it mostly Poly? Can I see the .evp ?
Please!
Agree with the rest of what you say though I think the mind is the
main factor, to have a grasp innerly of the sound, then the rest will
follow. however quality of hardware- controller is crucial, at least
for me. Even though i am basicaly guitar player, it makes lots of
difference, all the difference actually.
In the end in is not really to imitate a real flute but borrow the
qualities ( of expressivness) and use it with another instrument-synth
in this case, creating something different, using the possibilities
that real flute does not have.

Thanks. It's all Poly Evolver except for the drums, these come from
Spectrasonics Stylus RMX.

I am glad that we still have keys. Saves some time in comparison to the
attempts of gaining expressiveness by painting with the mouse into a grid
editor ;)

Thanks, not that different from what I tried- the basic set- but I see
where I have to work some more.
All Evolver sounds- interesting, I will be probably getting one.
Question, rack or keys. I am so disappointed with pathetic quality of
most of the products on the market.
The only keys I really like are new Virus but I am not at all
interested/impressed by the sounds, specially after getting hooked on
Dave`s sound quality. Got Novation X station yesterday, the second
best keys that i found. Damn, it is such piece of junk, buttons get
stuck everything is so plasticy, cheapo, sounds- doubt will use any
ever- only soundcard impressed me 40 latency- looks like world record
to me, and i thought 12 is bad.
The problem is, everything else is worse (even relatively expensive
Clavias have lousy keys). Seems only way is to get your own build- I
have a prototype ( still looking for chassis builder) with same keys
like the TI and it is so much more I can get out of Evolver because of
the accuracy and the "feel", the Evo+ great keys makes me feel like
playing.
There is no place I can try Poly keys, how good are they ? Otherwise i
may get parts from Doepfer and get something made.

It's the same keybed as the Alesis A6, so you might try that out.

I think it's a decent action, but doesn't seem to be quite as nice as
what the newer viruses use (I've only tried them briefly in the store
though).

[One thing worth mentioning is that the A6 seems to have truly awful
aftertouch response, but the PEK's aftertouch is as smooth as
butter... so don't be put off by that if you try the A6.]
