Dave Smith Instruments SYNTHESIZERS

Hello.
This may seem like a dumb question, but I'm quite new to this 
wondermachine.
I have a problem with changing the sequencer-rythm with the use of the 
shift-button,- the rythm WILL not wait to change after I release the 
shift-button!
Neither will it continue to play, I have to start it over again..
Is this a parameter-issue in the global settings or what can it be?

This is probably a lack of knowledge that I have in this area, but I 
would be happy with any help and responce at all.
