BOTH. In combo mode it can act as 2,3,4 Evolvers... or it can be a poly synth but it does allow you to stack voices too.
2009-02-23 by evening@soundgate.org
One thing to note is that the PEK only has one set of inputs - so it's not exactly like having multiple Evolvers.
2009-02-23 by Iain Bryden
Also, ulike using 4 individual Monos, Combo mode is very limited. If you send a patch change to one part of the combo all parts of the combo change to that patch, which is in contrast to every other multi-timbral synth on the planet. ________________________________

To get rid of an extra 20K I guess! I'm preaching to the choir here, but I think that the evolvers are very, very deep units. and often compare mine to an Arp 2600. (I'd still get a 200e if I had the disposable cash and a another lifetime to study how to use it.) jmw

Dale you have always had a great setup ;-)> For me, it's three racks like so top to bottom: Prophet PEK Yamaha S90ES Nord G2X Nord Wave Nord Stage 73 Moog Voyager Moog Phatty Korg M3/Radias combined in the 76 key housing There's so much more, but that's the keyboard pit I choose to use...I am often reminded of my hero Rick Wakeman and his early days...I love the configuration of the keyboard pit...saw it in ELO as well...it has a very strong pull for me. the back rack is typically effects, routing and processing that I can merge/switch in and out...including Moogerfoogers and more. I'm torn between the Keith Emerson pit from the 70's with the giant Modular in the background and Tony Kay's setup with "Yes" in their 9021 Live tour - a single keyboard that swiveled on a pole stand. I saw Depeche Mode with a single keyboard in the middle of the stage. I guess it depends how much we want to hide. :-) Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to carry as little as possible on a gig, but currently it is: Sound Sources - Mono Evolver Desktop - Virus TI Rack - Roland XV-5080 Controllers - Fatar 76 key weighted - Akai MPK49 Stand - Ultimate Support Apex with three tiers (one with the extra depth), with mic stand Amp - Roland KC550 I'm thinking of replacing the XV-5080 and 76 Key Fatar with a Roland Fantom X6. ________________________________
