sequencer MIDI in/out - Re: [Evolver] Re: How good is the sequencer?

One more thing, RE MIDI notes in/out of the evolver sequencer.... The pitch of the oscillators you hear is not always related to the pitch of the sequencer tracks, due to the huge number of options available in the evolver mod routings, and oscillator basic pitch settings, etc... So while MIDI out for the evolver sequencer could theoretically work, a lot of the time you might find that the MIDI notes you would see not seeming to make sense, compared to what you hear. Also, MIDI notes are not always the best info to send out for each sequence track (I've never programmed a patch with all 4 tracks just doing oscillator pitch info) as you can program the synth to use the sequencer tracks for all sorts of things. in that case, how would the evolver know what to do with all the information played back into it when you want to do that? would it send notes for sequence one, and Sysex for the parameters being changed by sequences 2,3 and 4? what if 2,3, and 4 are oscillator pitch, and you stop the external sequencer in the middle of a pattern, then save the patch on the evolver? you would have permanently transposed the other oscillator tracks then.... and if you send MIDI notes for tracks 2,3,4 will they need to be on diferent MIDI channels? Lots of questions for people to consider, about how would they like the MIDI in/out of the sequencer to work..... no wonder dave left that stuff alone... julian -- http://bleepin.com - "Good Wholesome Bleep, Like Mom Used To Make" >From: peter sedin <midihooker@...> >Reply-To: DSI_Evolver@yahoogroups.com >To: DSI_Evolver@yahoogroups.com >Subject: Re: [Evolver] Re: How good is the sequencer? >Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 16:38:40 -0800 (PST) > > > > ok well this is a bit of a problem (unless you > > sequence from your main > > sequencer in the first place, but then you are > > missing out on the magic of > > the evolver sequencer, IMO) > >----oh no i love to work with analogue stepseqs!! >i use a doepfer mac16/3 for "playing" all my gear.. >dont even own a keyboard. > > > > You can always dump your evolver patch as SysEx into > > the start of your main > > MIDI sequence, so that you have everything for the > > track together, and each > > time you press play you can guarantee the evolver > > will play right alongside > > everything else (master settings assumed OK) > > > >---- but that wont make the "keynotes" editble.. >its the ppq res. from logic audio is so high that >32th`s and triplets that are recorded on drumachines >hardware seqs.are tiny of beat(ungroove)when >synced(midi beatclock) >do you know what ppqresolution EVOLVER has? >i would like a softseq. that i could set the ppq >resolution my self. >its seems lot of fun thoe:=P and i cant wait to get >it!! > > > So its not 100% how you want to work, but definately > > a usable compromise. > > and if you do it a bit you might get to enjoy > > programming the evolver > > sequences from its own front panel!! :-P > > and thats the fun part!! a little ..kind of >ugly(novation right?) stepseqs.modular:=)) > >peter. > >__________________________________________________ >Do you Yahoo!? >Yahoo!
