sequencers in unison -- doubling the sound

sequencers in unison -- doubling the sound

2009-10-18 by wasteking1

I have a PEK and have one sequencer going triggering 1 of 4 voices---i have the volumes maxed out and it seemed quiet so i wanted to go unison with the sequence for a bigger sound.. so i set the selector for either of the unisons and it still only plays the sequence with one voice... i can play other voices on top of it ('keyboard and sequencer' setting ) but i cant seem to get the sequencer alone to play in a big unison. No matter what i tried, the sequencer only fires one voice. I even tried programming 2 of the sequencers for the same pattern and sound , but still only one voice fires. Maybe im missing something? I would like to see a unison/4 voice sequence. (its a simple rhythmic loop playing a couple diffrent notes) I may be doing something wrong.

It sounds like you are simply programming multiple sequencer tracks in 'PROGRAM' mode. If you want to fire multiple voices via the sequencer, you have to be in 'COMBO' mode. The sequencer in 'PROGRAM' mode doesn't work in a polyphonic manner, mono only - quite lame if you ask me, that should have been configurable - I mean seriously, how difficult would it have been to program the sequencer to fire a new voice on each step in program mode and then to disable that feature in combo mode?

From page 39 of the manual,
"In Program mode, only voice 1 plays the sequence (if one is programmed); the other
3 voices are still controlled via the keyboard. In Combo mode, each Part can have the
sequencer individually enabled or disabled. "

Couple other things to note about the sequencer
-in program mode, you have to cycle through the voices to get back to voice number one to gate the sequencer depending on the trigger mode and key mode - THIS SUCKS AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A BUG!
-Can't tie steps together
-Can't alter gate length (altering clock speed per step is not quite the same thing)

Think of it this way. The Polyevolver is a 4 voice polyphonic instrument with 4 monophonic 4 track 16 step sequencers.

p.s. if DSI is even reading this... I would pay for a mk2 OS upgrade for the polyevolver..... this is a great instrument, but it would be absolutely f*cking amazing if the poly part were spruced up. The way it operates, it seems as if the poly part to the evolver were simply an afterthought (which I'm sure it was).
