External Sequencing w/ Desktop Evolver

External Sequencing w/ Desktop Evolver

2010-01-12 by locatemodule

Hi All,

Attempting to sequence another synth using the desktop evolver's sequencer. I set the seq dest to Mno (Midi Note Out) and assigned note values to each step in the sequence, but it doesn't trigger the other synth. Am I missing something? Do I need to mess with midi clock / midi rec / midi channel? Seems like everything I've read says set seq dest to Mno to send midi notes and thats it.

Thanks for your help in advance!

David

I've not had any problems triggering other synths with the devo sequencer.

Well, I *think* (it's been awhile) that I routed the sequencer destination to midi note number. Check page 18 of the manual. I do clearly remember that the sequencer stages (notes) had to be adjusted, because since the evo sequencer tunes in quarter note increments, it won't directly translate with a standard midi instrument. So you just have to put in a little more time to edit each stage so it sends the note information you want. I notice that the manual states otherwise, it says that puts out the midi note plus one. But I distinctly remember sitting there turning the encoders for each step, and hearing my modular going up and down by quarter tones. Maybe I don't understand the manual - that's always a strong possibility!

Give it another try!

ok, i'll try send some sequences from evo to my kraftzwerg. i'll let you know what's happening. though i'll appreciate if you'll try this again yourself if you have the time...

:)

thanks.

Got it figured out. Classic case of operator error, or as we say at my work, a short between the headphones!

Thanks all!

Great! Can you tell if it's putting out midi note plus 1?

well, it looks like dave smith's right. unless the increment of the note is equal or bigger than 37 (36+1), you can't really modify the frequency of the midi notes. appearently evo transmitts midi in regular half tones.

so if your input looks like:

first row: 37 (or everything below), 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51

second row: 53, 55, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67

(third and fourth row doesn't seem to count)

then you'll obtain a whole tone scale (remember debussy?)

i also think that an increment of 37 is corresponding to a mid-low C (i didn't checked properly, i did it just by ear)
