recording sequence from keyboard---

I am still mystified by the 'recording sequence from keyboard' function on my PEK. the manual quickly glosses over this in 2 sentances. i cant seem to get my changes to go into memory. the steps are 1. push write 2. push sequencer start stop 3. play notes 4. push sequencer start stop again. is that all? i cant seem to get it to work, is there anotrher step ? do you select which sequencer (1-4) first--or after or not at all? this feature is not heavily described in the manual ,and not mentioned in that extra ' definitive guide to the evolver' that you can download. It would be very handy --the knob twiddling is such a drag for setting basic notes.
