I'm selling my Mopho Keyboard as I'm going for a polyphonic synth.  Perfect condition except for a scratch on the bottom of the synth.

Hi. Which polyphonic synth are you getting.
I talked to someone who says he didn't like the filters of the virus and I'm not sure exactly hat that means? This might be a dumb question but isn't a filter a filter or no?
Since I'm blind he recommended something that has a knob per function like the proffit08 or a moog.

If you like your mopho for it's features/ patches get the prophet 08 it is awesome.

Hi Scott,

I really want to get a Prophet PolyEvolver but I'm not sure if I can afford it right now.  I might look into getting another vintage Sequential Circuits Prophet 600.  I've always regretted selling my first one several years ago.  

Regarding filters...most have their own characteristics.  Virus synths aren't true analog so that's probably why your friend didn't like it.  I've never played a Virus but I hear great things about them.  Everyone has there own tastes...I don't think there is a "best" filter.  It's just what your ears prefer.

I will say it's hard to go wrong with a Moog or Prophet filter!

I have a virus a and a prophet 600.
The filter section in my virus has 
nowhere near the power of the prophet 
but you just can't beat analog. 
I have owned several analog modelers 
And they just don't have the power

Hi.  When you say the virus has no where near the power of the prophet, can you explain what that means to someone who doesn't know a whole lot about filter types so-to-speak?  Can you put together an audio demonstration comparing the two?  I'm looking for a hardware synth that will do ambient well that I can use in conjunction with Omnisphere and I like the knob per function idea instead of something iwth a lot of menus to memorize if possible.

Since I have a screen reader, using omnisphere as the major soft synth shouldn't be too much of a problem because the jaws software should read the menus of that alright but in terms of hardware that has a lot of menus, that's a different story altogether.

Hi.

The virus is a superb tweakable polyphonic synthesiser.  It has been in the top ten of synths since its first release, and for good reason.

The filters thing - don't know.  I use my ears to test synths.  IF it's the highpass, lowpass thing then I'm not sure, but you can use various other parameters to control filter envelopes, within the advanced pages, though I never had call to.  I spent hours messing with the minimoog and the virus together on one day.  I bought the Virus.  The moog was nice, but monophonic, and a bit tiring to listen to.  The Virus sounded lush and awesome.  Still does, actually.

Love the DSI Tetra too, but I go for the virus for sound quality.

Every filter sounds different even when designed to have similar characteristics (i.e. number of poles).  Evolvers have 4 pole filters and so do Moogs yet the Evolver and Moog filters don't sound at all the same. 

This is a common topic and source of controversy amongst synth fans. A filter that sounds great to one person might sound awful to another...it's very subjective.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
