New feature: delay phase

New feature: delay phase

2003-03-11 by Riccardo Coen

Wouldn't it be cool if we could control the phase of the delays?

We could have some interesting flanger, and phaser (duh!) effects.

I am going to add a new request.

Cheers,

Riccardo.

What does `phase of the delays' mean? It's just a delay...

.Numeric stability is probably not all that important when you're guessing.

Invert the phase of delay means that when it is summed back with the
original signal it will cancel (or reinforce) part it.

If you sum a signal and the same signal with the phase reversed you
get nada.

when you shift in time one of the signal you cancel from signal one
what is in signal 2, but you add whatever is not present in signal one
as well.... thus creating interesting shifts in timbre.

You could in theory invert the phase just mixing the delayed signal
back by exactly half a period of the signal, but that's pretty hard to
achieve in general.

I didn't explain it very well.. sorry...

Well.. increase the delay time slightly and your signal is going to go out of phase... there is no way you can build a delay that can take do out of phase for any signal..

hi there.

You may need to slap a filter in front of the delay to flip the phase
of what is fed into the delay. No?

I guess that's how the Adrenalinn has it implemented.

But probably what I was really thinking of was to be able to switch
the polarity of the signal fed to the delay.

Anyway, after rummaging on it for a while I find myself confused as
these guys do

Ah, that makes a lot more sense...

Not sure where it'd fit into the Evolver's control scheme though; how
about allowing the delay level settings to be negative (currently they
go from 0-100), in which case the corresponding delay _output_ would be
inverted?

Yes that's what I had in mind, and I posted it on the database
already.

I think it's a nice touch to add. But could live without it as well.
