PC1600x & SoundDiver & Evolver

PC1600x & SoundDiver & Evolver

2003-03-31 by Harry Pinna

I recently downloaded that new SD profile for the Evolver that has waveform drawing. I can say it works great on my Mac. Even if you don't want that feature download it for the graphic envelopes.

I also popped the Evolver profile into my PC1600x. As easy as the Evolver interface is, it sure is nice to have the PC1600x to control it. It's a blast to use especially for the four sequencers.

I know its been said before, but if you're reading this and are thinking about getting an Evolver... get one! Really! I don't know how man synths I've owned over the last 20 years, but the Evolver ranks up there for sound, usability and the "x" factor that makes you want to keep trying new things with it.

yeah a very cool and unique sounding synth...

I've got to admit that after going on about the sequencer being an intergral
part of the synth, I've started spending a lot of time in the last few weeks
just playing with it as a MIDI module... hmm.. maybe the sequencer isn't the
be all and end all of this synth afterall...

And since I'm talking about the MIDI played sounds, I have to take this
opportunity to declare my *love* for the simmons tom patch in bank 2! Wow.
how much fun is that to play with an mpc?

Kicking along the sequencer with an external drum box is a very cool way to
run it!

I can't wait for the feature to kick along the sequencer with MIDI notes....
hope that gets implemented soon!!

Hey, remember it's a one man company, and its only been on sale for about 4
months.... plus the only sales channel till very recently has been the
internet, which a lot of people are still suspicious of buying things on. I
think 500 is doing pretty well, actually.

I'm going to have to get a bunch of my patches onto the PC for this user
group sometime soon... so far I've just made up and stored sounds in the
synth, I'm starting to lose track of patches I've written....

Dunno how soon. I met Dave in Frankfurt recently and mentioned it to
him. He muttered "oh, that..."....

given the amount of time it has been on sale,
that comes to 2-3 sold a day...

consider too that there was a burst of early
adopters, then came the people who needed some
user feedback to be swayed, then came people
who have seen it in person at the Messe and
NAMM and such...

on one hand, it is quite inexpensive given
what it can do, but on the other hand, the
price is above the threshold for what most
people would consider in terms of an
"impulse" buy.

cheers,
aeon

p.s. PC1600x rocks for the sequencer! ;)

Harry or anyone else with SD:

I asked the list for this the other day. Since you have SD would you be
willing to import those Evolver PC1600x patches into the SD adaptation
for the PC1600? And send them to me via email or upload to the files
area of the Yahoo group?

I would really appreciate it.

The banks are compatible with the PC1600 but not having an x model makes
uploading the single Sysex file shut my non-x model down.

Perhaps I'm just naive about the synth biz, but that seems pretty good
to me (hey it's $250,000!) given that it's apparently a one-man operation.

It sounds like D.S. is being _very_ careful to make sure DSI is a viable
business, so he's probably paid a lot of attention to keeping his costs
pretty low. [Does anyone know what caused the demise of sequential?]

Based on the serial numbers I've seen, sales seem to have speeded up
quite a bit recently, so I'd guess the word is getting out.

Hmmm, it was something of an impulse buy for me (I'm not sure if I
should hang my head or not :-). Anyway, it doesn't hurt that his
website makes buying one almost effortless...
