V-synth for all you gear lusters out there . . .

V-synth for all you gear lusters out there . . .

2003-04-16 by Ravi Ivan Sharma

After all these years I know a good thing when I see/hear it. After reading
about the V-Synth, I felt it a winner. The day I spent 20 minutes with one,
the first day it came in the store (I was tracking the store) I bought it
despite its high price tag and at least a thousand dollars more on a single
piece of gear that I have ever spent! So far I have been liking it a lot and
although every synth has a few things one would like better, I have felt
that I made a good choice for me and also objectively.

SOS just released their review and it is probably one of the lengthiest
(there is a lot in the V-Synth) and most positive reviews I have read in a
long time. A couple of snippets from SOS's Paul Nagle:

"The V-Synth is a heavyweight performer and priced accordingly. That it has
such a wealth of sound sources and processors is great, but it is Variphrase
technology, housed in the body of a responsive musical instrument, that
makes it so exciting. The sum of the parts adds up to the most
groundbreaking Roland synth in years."

"I almost don't want to tell anyone about the V-Synth, because it's the
first instrument in years that promises a genuine edge over the
competition."

"With Roland's best technologies of recent years on board, this synth
demands to be programmed and performed with. Quite simply, it's a sound
designer's dream machine."

It seems I have been on the same page as Paul for some time in terms of what
I like in gear.

Heh, nothing wrong with that man!

BTW I did some samples of patches if you're interested at

 www.BogusFocus.com/v-synth.htm

This is, of course, an unsubtle attempt to get some of you to buy my
new CD <g>

Er, no. Not anger exactly except about the other lunatics in the
world. Madness, well maybe. What is sane anyway?

Excellent Paul! Now I can sample those, plop them into my V-Synth
and twist further. Are you getting one (or somehow misplacing your
evaluation unit for the indefinite future . . :)

Congrats, Ravi
That is quite a purchase! I played with one in the
store also and I can see where it is probably the most
versitile Synth since the Wavestation A/D came out. It
is HUGE in it's capacity and capability. But different
that, say, a Triton. It's more "mutation" than
"workstation", at least from what I was able to gather
in my short time on it, though it did have those
features on it, yes?

If I had the money...

the only thing that cheesed me off about the vsynth was the
construction. Sure its sturdy but I find the nord lead / access indigo
way of making things from alluminum with wood more appealing. To much
plastic and glitter. It is a neat unit however, I have considered
getting one but i think a lead , indigo, or microq would be a better
choice for me.
