Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

A wise old friend of mine once opined: "Ya think long, ya think
wrong." 
 
Never one to pay heed to such wisdom, I've been agonizing over the
differences between the two subject kits.  The XtremeIIS has *all* the
bells and whistles I could conceive of now and in the forseeable
future, but has the larger price and footprint.  Ed's recommendation
(thanks again, Ed!) of visiting Drumbalaya has taken the price out of
the equation for me, but the footprint is still somewhat of a
concern.  

Has anyone seen/played both kits so as to be able to render an opinion
on the size differential between the two?  It appears to be
significant in the photos, but I will never be able to sit behind
either before I buy and would love to hear an opinion (or two, or
...).  As always, any and all advice will be gratefully appreciated.
