I noticed that Yamaha now has a paragraph in the brochures that come with the various pads that state that the rubber and foam do have a limited life cycle depending on the amount of play and that you can contact them for "replacement" parts. I would have to go back and dig out the manuals for my DtxpressII kit pads, but I don't remember that being in there, specifically, talking about the foam in the KP65 deteriorating. Also, got out the tools and took apart some of the new pads. I will try and post some pics of the insides by the weekend. Specifically, the TP100/TP120S/PCY150/PCY130S/PCY130/RHH130. Since the latter four are a part of the Dtxpress IIIsp, I will post the pics here in this group. The TP pads are only a part of the Dtxtreme IIS, so those will be posted to the Yahoogroups/dtxtreme group only. The RHH130 top is the same material used on the PCY130S, except the color of the plastic is black inside rather than the silver on the bottom of the PCY130S. The metal "clutch" that attaches to the hihat rod is not attached to anything inside the pad, so you don't have to worry about it rotating and hurting something inside. It is just a hunk of metal with a teflon washer on the bottom. If you look at the HH65 pictures you will see a rubber rocker that presses down on some ribbon sensors. They have simple modified the sensor ribbon and the rubber rocker to accommodate the hole in the middle for the shaft and placed it in the bottom plastic housing of the RHH130. Instead of four contact points on the HH65, there are five contact points on the RHH130 sensor ribbon. The metal clutch simply presses down on this rubber rocker. Simple and elagant. (This actually looks like a winter project in the working. Since there is no real need for the top rubber pad to come in contact with the bottom pad, there maybe a way to modify the RHH130 so that the top swings a little more freely, as it is a rigid as a rock as it comes from the factory.)
