I think that one of the reasons why you only hear
basic midi sounds is that your drum map are badly configure. You must use the
standard GM drums map in your own kit. Try this: http://www.edrumweb.com/Articles/midi-map.html
And maybe you will hear something when receiving
data.(the midi notes received must square with each midi note of your kit in
order to hear the sound you want).
(don't forget to unplugged the channel 10 mute
option, push shift+page up)
