Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

I own 3 alesis modules, Pintech pads, DYO Roland style silent mesh 
pads, and the best of the lot, DTXtreme-2. What is outstanding about 
all those units are the acoustic sounding samples. But there is more 
to it than just good samples and pads. The triggering and how the 
sample is processed. The huge difference between the DTX-2.0 with 
pintech pads (used them live by the way), and the newer Xtreme-2's 
is the triggering and the way the sample is played. Apparently the 
memory for the sample being played in the newer modules, ie DTX-3, 
Xtreme etc. is greater. This enables the sample to play out it's 
note for a longer duration, thus when the next not is hit, it 
doesn't choke or replace the first note being played. In a nutshell, 
it rids, or decreases to a greater degree the "machine gun" effect 
that is famous in older modules. So when doing difficult and dynamic 
snare work at high speeds with dynamics, the newer modules will 
articulate the playing far better than the older modules. Mind you 
the DTX-2 is older, but still a gem of a module due to it's features 
and rich drum sounds. The newer modules play the sample far better.  
Anyways I would get xpress 3. I tried a kit in the music store and 
it is sweet. I did some snare work and it tracked and played the 
notes nicely. The sounds were rich and acoustic sounding. The pads 
are factory mated to the module. My factory xtreme pads work better 
with my module than Pintech. Not to slam Pintech, but that's the way 
it is. The Pintech pads do work nicely with my Alesis and Yamaha 
modules none the less as I gigged with them live untill I got the 
Xtreme's. Hope this helps.
