Nick, Here goes nothing, it should be clear as mud when I finish, as I am still trying to figure out why they did it this way. When you go to the Voice menu, and you turn the first knob [Voice1] counterclockwise until you see the lowest midi note number/name 13C#- 1, the Type = Percs1; the Voice=SurdoM. As you scroll up through the midi note number/name list from 13C#-1 (which is note number 13 and midi note C#-1) up to note number/name of 94A#5 (which is note number 94 and mide note A#5) that a different instrument group and voice number is assigned to each mide note. There are a total of 82 assignable note numbers 13 through 94 (C#-1 to A#5) for this module. The note numbers 0-12 and 95-127 cannot be used for pad voices, but only for mide control events [see page 42,3- Note#, under Settings, *note number]. The module comes with these notes already preset so they can be used with the factory preset drum kits. So if you only what to use the factory drum kits and just do some minor tweaking of the voice, you can just change it here, and that is as far as you need to go. Just remember, if you change an assignment to a midi note here that has a asterick beside it, it will change the midi note/name for all the kits that use that midi note number. For the more adventure-some, multiple voices layered per pad: Start by going to the Trigger menu item [TrgMIDI1]. For each Input 1-16 (pads), 1R1-8R2 (rims), that you want to setup with more than one voice make sure that the second item on the menu is set to "Stack". Now go to the Trigger menu item [TrgMIDI2]. The first item is the trigger Input source 1-16 or rims. The second item is the Note number, 1st,2nd,3rd,4th, etc. For pads you can stack 6 notes or 9 alternate mode notes. For the Hihat you can stack 5 notes. For the rims you can stack 2 notes. The second knob scrolls down through the note 1st, 2nd, 3rd...6th, etc. This is similar to the layer number on the Dtxpress module, except you have more than 2 layers. The third item is the actual midi number/name (13C#-1) that you assign to each "Note" or "layer". So for example, if you set "Note 1st" to equal 13C#-1 and "Note 2nd" to equal 14D-1, you will have "Layer" 1 set to play "Percs1/SurdoM1" and "Layer" 2 set to play "Percs1/Surdo". And that's really all there is to it. In the Trigger menu you tell the module how many and what midi notes you want it to play for each trigger input 1-16 and rims. You then go to the Voice menu and assign the actual sounds to the midi notes that you are using. Example: Setting up the snare pad to have three layered voices. First check to see which midi number/names are not being used in the Voice menu. They are the ones that do not have a * beside the note number. In this case we are going to use the following three midi note numbers and assign them the following Type/Voices: [Voice1] TYPE VOICE 13C#-1 AcSnr1 St.Smith1 (this will be layer 1 voice) 14D-1 AcSnr1 St.Smith2 (this will be layer 2 voice) 15D#-1 AcSnr1 St.Snare (this will be layer 3 voice) Now go to the Trigger Menu [TrgMIDI2] For the first item select "Input=1", which is the snare pad. For the second item select "Note = 1st", which is the first layered note. For the third item select "Note# = 13C#-1" Now set the second item to "Note = 2nd", which is the second layered note and set the third item to "Note# = 14D-1" Now set the second item to "Note = 3rd", which is the third layered voice and set the third item to "Note# = 15D#-1". Then save it to a user kit and your done. You can now go through and adjust the volume and crossfading in a similar fashion to the Dtxpress module, except this is done in the Trigger menu instead of the Voice menu. Hope that helps you get started. OGD --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "Nick Carroll" <njcarroll56@y...> wrote: > > Cheers, and thanks OGD.
