I use a Yamaha DD50 To practice with at home. I also run
it through a bass amp with an added tweeter from Radio Shack. For about
$25 I bought the super tweeter which added all the highs to the bass amp.
It makes a huge differance in the snare and cymbles, sounds are crisp and
clean. It works great.

considering getting one then go for it. For me the best thing is being able
to practise anytime without disturbing anyone. It's really really good fun,
the sounds are good and practising with a CD player attached is excellent.
I have only played live once and it will obviously take some time to choose
the best sounds for playing live. The kit I had set up sounded brilliant
through the headphones but rubbish through the PA. I use a 15" bass amp
(which can cope surprisingly well with even the high frequency stuff) for
my monitor and providing the bulk of the bass sounds, the main house also
takes an output to provide width and good high frequency reproduction.
Cymbals are the major weakness when playing live, they make a reasonable
sound but you can't get the wide range of sounds you want. I plan to get
some new cymbals and hats to use when playing live.
Has anyone else noticed that lots of the sounds on the DTXpress are the same
but just played at different speeds? If you use the tune functions you can
hear that many of the weird sounds have been sampled at high and low
frequencies to increase the number of sounds. It's not a problem and
probably understandable given the bargain price of the DTXpress.
Thanks everyone for the group, it helped me decide to go for the DTXpress
and has given me lots of helpful hints.
Cheers
Ben
