Steve, The technology hasn't changed immensely since the heyday of the DTX v2.0. Someone on a budget would do well with the module even now; it puts the DTXPU to shame so far as ergonomics and features are concerned. But it is limited by its inability to handle the newer Yamaha three-sound pads, and it is not a great match with all of the various mesh heads on the market today, though it may be an okay match for some of them, as I have learned during the last few months. Pete Corona, who is a terrific drummer and a member here and at DTX, has been using the v2.0 for years. Only lately, when he's had a mind to change to different pads, has he run into trouble finding suitable replacements. If I were looking for a second module to fill in some gaps, I might well pick up a DTX, but I'd be a little scared to rely on it now as my main source unless I could be happy a little behind the times, or the price could compensate for it not being up to date.
