You mentioned raising the kit volume from 100 to 127, but did you raise the volume of the individual pads? The suggestion about trying another set of headphones is a good idea, and the DTX v2.0 is too much signal for a computer rig. The power supply is also rearing its ugly head. Radio Shack no longer appears to carry power supplies with switchable polarity, but places like Home Depot carry the Belkin version, which covers enough of the bases.
